Choosing the Best Flooring Option

Choosing the right flooring option might be the biggest decision you gotta make on your home renovation. You can paint the walls, and buy furniture on a budget, but replacing an entire floor is a much bigger and costlier job.

There are lots of different flooring options, including several that are very affordable. However, you can’t just decide on one without knowing its pros and cons. So before making such a crucial decision on your flooring option, it pays to do a little research that will help you decide on which would be the best choice for your home. We hope that what we have consolidated helps you a little with your decision-making process.

1. Little Miss Popular - Vinyl

Vinyl is the most popular choice for homeowners so far. One of the most important factors is it is very affordable and easy to maintain. Of course, its durability cannot be compared to tiles or marble, but it will last 10 to 15 years at least. It’s very comfortable to walk on and warmer on bare feet than tile.

What we also love about it is the wide range of colours and patterns that vinyl offers. There are options to fit almost any home design style or colour theme.

2. Beautiful girl - Marble

Marble floorings portray luxury and sophistication. It often comes in soft white to grey colours which makes it very flexible and easy to match with any theme you decide to go with for your home. The patterns and lines on marbles are very distinctive and it is polished with a nice shine like no other.

Your feet will feel cooler when walking on marble tiles. As Singapore is a country where the weather is warm and humid all year round, marble would make it a lot more bearable. However, marble faced rejection by many was also due to its expensive cost.

3. Cool guy - Cement screed

This might be the boldest decision you will make as part of your home renovation. If you love the raw-ness of the cement screeding floor, old school, cooling and a very “gallery” feel, you can choose to go with this flooring option.

Cracks will form progressively and it may even chip off caused by hard falling objects. So please bear in mind that this type of flooring will take a lot of hard work to maintain. It will also be more expensive as it has to be premixed and it is a lot more difficult to lay.

4. Rich kid - Hardwood

This type of flooring is a natural beauty, and because of the enormous variety, it can match almost any design theme. Hardwood flooring allows for easy and sanitary cleaning. And because of these hardwood floors are a better option for families that have allergies or asthma.

It comes with a higher price tag than most of the other types of floorings due to the material quality and workmanship. It is also hard to maintain due to it being susceptible to water damage. Failure to dry your floors immediately will result in discolouration, raised edges, and buckling.

5. The common - Tiles

Choose this if you are a hardcore fan of eco-friendly products. Tiles are made of natural clay and other raw materials, so their production won’t deplete other natural resources. Similar to marble, tiles are also good heat conductors that are suitable for Singapore weather.

As it is waterproof, tile flooring is definitely the option for almost every kitchen or toilet out there. If any stains, dirt, or liquids get on it, they will all rest on top of it and won’t get absorbed. This means it is easy to mop them up or wipe them away. Of course, do take note that it gets slippery when it’s wet.
